Huron Middle School contains grades 6 - 8, with a total of 532 students.
Huron Middle School students enjoy attending school in a beautiful building that is sixteen years old. The school has a "house" area for each grade, and rooms for our "Exploratory" and other special classes. We have dedicated rooms for band, orchestra, choir, as well as a large gymnasium and a smaller auxiliary gym. We are fortunate to be connected to the Nordby Center for Recreation, which boasts an indoor swimming pool, basketball/tennis courts, weightlifting and exercise areas, and racquetball courts.
There are nearly 80 wonderful staff people who make Huron Middle School operate smoothly every day.

The one book I would highly recommend to any colleague is What Great Teachers Do Differently by Todd Whitaker. It outlines what things really matter to students and how teachers have an impact on student outcome. - Lisa Kissner, 6-8 grades, sheltered math and social studies
The 8th Grade Staff recommends Schools of Fish - Encompasses four simple principles: Be There, Play, Make Their Day, and Choose Your Attitude! Encourages teacher connections to students in a meaningful way. At Huron Middle School, our strategy for cultivating caring relationships has each staff member—from custodians to nurses to administrators—serve as an "academic lifeguard" for a struggling student.
Huron is a community with a population around 13,000, and serves as the hub for a larger area of about 20,000 people. The economy is based primarily on agriculture and manufacturing. Huron is proud to be the home of the South Dakota State Fair!
